Clio 172 Cup
Hey everyone,
I noticed an overheating problem in the summer when sat in heavy traffic (constantly stopping and starting). The temp gauge was almost at the top, and pulling up and stopping the car whilst whacking the heaters on full temp and full blast was the only way to bring the temp down. I then realised that I had not heard the radiator fan / cooling kick in, and I'd actually not heard it for a long time.
Is there a fuse for this fan, either next to the passenger door or inside the bonnet near the battery? Can anyone help me locate it? If there is a fuse, and I check it to find that it is ok, what else could this be? Faulty wiring, buggered fan? How much am I looking at for a replacement fan if I need it?
My second concern is the sound of my engine when warm. Ticking, tapping, grinding / scraping when revving and general roughness is a major worry. My 172 cup is on 74k and I have no idea what has been done to the engine during services. I think that the aux belt and dephayser pulley need changing as I do not think they have ever been done. The tappets / lifters may also need adjusting. The cambelt was done by a non-renault garage around 1000 miles ago, but they only charged £250 which I thought was way too cheap for a hard, 8 hour job. I'm not convinced they've done everything they should have.
If I was to have all of the above done by Renault, would I be looking at something very expensive like £1,200 plus ?
If I just had all the other engine repairs done (minus the cambelt change)........how much would I be looking at if Renault did it? Is it generally not advisable to use a non-renault garage for these repairs?
Are there any North-West based garages / Clio enthusiats who could carry this work out, and at what price?
Any help on both the overheating and engine issues would be great.
Cheers
J
