200 brake failure :(

  Clio 200, leon fr
Hi

Was just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. I've got a 61 plate 200 and since October I've been having problems with the brakes. The pedals going solid when I'm trying to brake so I have to wait a few seconds and reapply the brakes where it will work but there not very sharp at all. There not all that responsive at the best of times. Had it in Renault and they told me the pads were excessively low and highly dangerous took the car away as mates a Nissan master tech and he was going to do them for me but pads have over half left and there's no exceeding scoring or heat marks on discs or pads. Had 3 other mates who are all Renault trained check them and there all agreed that they look fine so kinda at a loss where to go now as the dealer are telling me that it's not a safety issue even tho my brakes aren't working tho one manager has admired he wouldn't let his wife drive with brakes like mine. Help

Calipers need cleaning and a bit filed off the pads , so few have a couple of mm vertical movement.

What Martin said above

When they checked them, did they strip them down and check the inside pad isn't wedged in/binding or just have a quick look

No sure what renaults did apart from charge me for it lol every time I asked they gave me different answers. Ye they were stripped down by my mate as he noticed the rears were binding so replaced them for me in January. He did mention calipers as he worked on another 200 that got them replaced under warranty as there was a defect on them hence why he told me to go back to Renault with mine. Gave him a text anyway to see when it can get in and done x

Keep away from renault they are useless. Just needs someone with a bit of sense to strip them and file the pads.

Depending on where you are located Id have a browse of the specialists on here and make a trip to whichever is local. Even if you dont get the problem fixed they can at least give you a proper diagnosis so you can return to Renault and get whatever it is fixed under warranty.
