200 vs Mini JCW

  200
What are the Pros and cons of each. I have had a play with a few in mine and on the road they are very similar performance. I havent ever driven one, am taking one for a test drive in 2 weeks.

JCW will be better build quality.... i have never driven a 200 but i have driven a JCW and they handle just like a gokart! only cons i can think of are the runflats, they do make it very bumpy.

But press the sport mode in a jcw and it really is immense fun!

This is what i put into a mini forum.

Hello all, im new to the forum, just turned 22.
I bought a Clio Sport 200 in September which I love, i dont need to go into it as the reviews speak for themselves.
I wouldn't have one over the cooper S however I would potentially have a JCW.
I have always loved JCW. I am a bit obsessed with Focus RS aswell which i was hoping to get into within the next year (there are 3 month old ones for around 24k atm) I am however thinking to have a JCW for 6months to a year before I get something a little more powerful as i ask myself "would i really be able to make the most of a FRS?" the answer is probs no.

What would i be looking to pay for a good spec JCW 6months old or under or if i was to buy one new how much woulf i pay and what would it worth a year on?
I have tried looking on PH and AT but they are all 2008 or older, mine would need to be nearly new so they take the Hit.

I have never driven a JCW but i have driven a Cooper S but i find them a little Mumsy unlike the JCW. (no offence to anyone). I often have a play with JCWs in mine and you guys may not agree but they are pretty evenly matched and i even recon you can be harder into the corners with the 200.
Before you guys sat it, yes i know the JCW is faster ina straight line and you dont need to work so hard for it being a turbo not NA Blah blah.

Basiclly i want to try something different, something turbo'd and something thats not going to average 21.5MPG :p so please send me your feelings :p

They are lovely. A bit ponsy (How do you spell) however they do hold loads. Im sure they wont be any more fun but its the sort of car you can have for a long time if you need to if that makes sense.

  Mini Cooper S
I want an 08/58 plate Cooper S next year. I don't care if I'll look gay.
I'll only be able to take 2 passengers too :)

I know a dealer who has very good Standard Mini/ Cooper S contacts and hes based in St Neots so not too far from you

Won't be looking for another year mate, thanks anyway. Thats even if I can get insured on one!

At 22 you have a Clio 200, fancy a JCW for 6 months before buying a Focus RS :S.

If you can afford to do it then great but have you stopped to consider the depreciation as soon as you drive it off the forecourt?

Don't take this the wrong way but this sounds like a case of 'more money than sense'. Why don't you just keep the 200 and go straight to the FRS in 6-12 months?

Wouldn't it make more financial sense to skip the JCW and go straight onto the FRS - that would save you the deprecation on the JCW?

Mini's lose alot of money once they're spec'd up. I bought a MCS from a main Mini dealer many years ago. It was, at the time 2yrs old 5.500 miles for just under 15k, it was well spec'd, previous owner paid around 21K.

I'm sure a Mini dealer would have made around 2k profit on that. So the first owner would have bought it at 21k the sold/px at 13k. That's 7k in 2yrs & 5.500 miles.

Na im thinking of not going for the FRS totally. The mini is something which can be kept for a long time and not lose too much. The FRS i think drops too much. i.e. they can drop 4k in 3 months which is stupid. Its also 2k to insure where the mini is the same as mine £890.
Also i would not be getting it new.

Lols where is the RS that dropped 4k in 3 months?

Fair enough. The problem with the JCW is they are a victim of their own success. Say what you like about the look of the 200 but they are rare as rocking horse sh1t and that will always make them special.

Anyway we shall see, i didnt really get the info from people who have driven them but never mind i shall check on the other forums aswell. Cheers guys

The JCW is a great car, tbh. BMW labour charges are however not great. Parts are very very expensive.

Although as Gally rightfully said a heros chariot, chuck norris helped assemble the GP's by hand.
