1.2 16v clio
Hi guys, 1st post so be gentle lol
anyway driving to scotland in my g/f clio on friday and occasionally the car was giving a little blip, just a slight loss of power, litterally the revs would drop slightly and then pick up, did it a couple of times, but nothing major.
Anyway on the saturday i was driving a short distance and the car would lose power, drop from 4000rpm down to 1000 and would not go, anyway as the drive went on it seemed to almost cure itself (the drive was 20mins odd)
On sunday when it came time to go home, car was doing the same again, loss of power, revs dying, then picking up. So parked the car in a carpark and had a quick look to see if all connectors were ok, vac pipes were on. could see nothing apparent so had another go at driving. i got 30mins down the road at 80 (would do no more) i assumed this was down to a dirty map sensor, anyway the car started losing power again revs dying so pulled into a service station, bought some tools and removed the airfilter as it was dirty - hoping the map sensor would work a bit better if it had less restricted air to it. Anyway car still running cack so i tried the wiper stalk trick to see if any fault codes were logged, there were none, last thing i could think of was an ecu reset, so dicsonnected the battery for 10mins, this seemed to do the trick. i then managed to drive for 2hrs with no problems. all of a sudden though i lost all revs and the little engine light at the bottom right came on, as did the stop light ect - the engine had stalled, i was lucky enought to coast into the services an park up, tried the ecu thing again but no luck this time, car was idling lumpy, and then died again and would not restart.
My question is would this be the TDC sensor - if this had failed would it cause the car not not run, i know it wont allow the car to start but does it have any part when the car is running?
Would a failed coil pack cause these symptoms?
When the AA guy came out he checked the coil pack but could find no output from it, BUT if the TDC sensor was faulty he wouldnt would he, i assume the TDC stops the spark and fuel until its happy with the timing position.
Any help guys
thanks
