2010 Clio RS Gordini gearbox isdue

Hi,
I have a 2010 Gordini which when I put it into 4th gear it clunks, sounds like metal in metal.

I have spoken to my local garage who have spoken to their gearbox specialists and have suggested I get a refurb gearbox as it will be cheaper than a new one.

My question is with my car being a RS Gordini,is there anything different I need to know about or would it be a like for like replacement.

They are also planning on changing the clutch as that is the same age as the car! Does anyone have any suggestions as it's a bit if a mind field lol.

Thanks.

The TL4 boxes are mega common for 4th gear synchros. The gearbox is the exact same as any other Clio 200 and 197 so you should be sound buying a refurbished one

If the clutch was fine before I would leave it be, save yourself a few quid. Unless you'd rather have the peace of mind, if they do replace the clutch absolutely make sure they replace all of the bolts for brand new ones

Technically, that’s not correct as the ratios in the 200 box aren’t the same as the 197. The early 197 had the TL4 003, which was a closer ratio box. They changed the ratios in the TL4 024 box and improved the cruising rpm.

When they did the 200, they changed the ratios again slightly - which is the 031. 👍🏻

Christ. I swear Renault just changed things for the sake of it

The PK boxes are the same, changed the ratios on the diesels for absolutely no reason other than 100rpm difference at 70mph🤣

As above stick with the box you have for the correct ratios, i moved from a later 197 box (longer 6th) to a 200 box and noticed the car felt livelier with the shorter 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear.
