221 bhp b18c6 itb'd mini

well yesterday i managed to get the mini booked in at rs tuning for its tweak on the map for the new injectors 2.5" exhaust system and the longer 90mm trunpets, to be honest i wasnt expecting it to make much of a difference from the previous session where it had made 203bhp
well after paul had worked his magic it made 221bhp and 156 ft lbs torque which on a dyno dynamics rrd is very respectable, its like a different car and goes very well now as the car only weighs in at 650kg :)

engine spec is b18c6,
diy headwork (by me)
b16b high comp pistons, around 12.5-1 compression
dc sports 4-1 manifold,
jenvey 48mm itb's with 90mm trumpets,
2.5" exhaust system

Did you do the conversion? Me and a mate has a clubman sat in the unit.

yeah mate I built it from a bare shell upwards it took me about 8months start to finish with alot of help from friends.

Did you follow any set guide/advice? We're pretty handy but all conversions we've done are on land rovers so just a little different..lol

We're tempted just to go for a A series turbo for ease.

i just went at it and it turned out alright, I will say that whatever you think it's going to cost you then triple it and everything has to be made to fit and it's time consuming so if you want ease them I'd suggest sticking with the a series.

I keep thinking about boosting my b16 engine that I took out of this mini but it's a handfull enough as it is, I went out on a 399bhp b18 turbo'd mini and tbh it was pants it just spun the wheels and went nowhere, he even ran a 15.1 at pod which is very poor IMO when you compare that with half the power I managed a 12.9.
obviously you have the skills and knowledge to make more use of the power than he did but I honestly think it would be hard work trying to get the power down, mine will spin up in 4th on the roads so can't imagine what it would be like with a load more torque at the front wheels :)
if you could get it to grip it will be awesome fun that's for sure

well its been a while since i updated this, i decided to fit some skunk 2 stage 2 cams to up the power a little more, i had to fit a rhicker head gasket just to make sure there were no clearance issues between pistons and valves so it dropped compression a little,
end result was a healthy 226bhp ::

On my way home the car decided to drop a valve and destroy the whole engine :( I was advised to fit the uprated valve springs and retainers but stupidly ignored the advice and paid the price :-(
this is what happens to my poor engine

so after a big cry I decided to get hold of another block and get it bored out to 82mm from the standard 81mm taking it to about 1840cc :)
i used my spare ported type r cylinder head and parted with near on £500 for some skunk2 pro series double valve springs and titanium retainers to hopefully keep it in one piece, the car is currently up and running being run in ready for mapping, hopefully I should see 230bhp once done :)
here is how she sits now, I also added a set of cibie oscars for that retro cool look :)

God knows how or why but the engine is a mess, probably worse than last time, my suspicion is that the cams are to far advanced on the verniers.
