Yeah i paid £60 about 3 months ago too. £80 is too steep!

As if it doesnt already put your insurance up costing you more!

I think you should seriously enquire as to why your being charged £80.

I was doing more than 40mph in a 30mph zone when I got flashed by a fixed camera. £60 fine as per the norm.

They did catch Ian Huntley - and they ARE doing their job - If they didnt have to spend time catching people speeding then theyd be out doing other things! Im not saying I never speed but you get what you ask for - I know that if im going over the speed limited, its my problem if I get a fine, not theirs!

I think they are too vigilant on speeding and too weak on bigger crimes like theft and public disorder crimes. Some people are a menace to society from the minute they wake up yet walk around with not a care in the world.

The reason is far too obvious - income.

I see no reason why any one should condone theyre actions over the last few years. Although as stated its our choice to speed and knowing the way they are you have to live with it. Its just wrong the way people who hardly put a foot wrong get punished so regularly.

My late granfather got flashed - 81 years old without a blemish against him in his entire life. He was doing 41mph in a 30mph zone. That road was 40mph for about 30 years till just after they put the camera up. Again showing its just a source of income.

Well said, totally agree with you.

There are a mass of roads where I live that have been 40mph for years and now are 30mhp and it has caught a lot of people out....there was never a problem at 40mph..NO DEATHS, so why is it suddenly very dangerous that they have to drop to 30mph and fine everybody for being over??????

Also heard that they will be putting the fixed penelty up to £95 soon....

Simon.

aint been funyn or harsh but if a member of ure family got hit and killed by sum one doin 36mph in a 30mph zone for instance. u would not be sayin that at all!

its a law! u wither do wot it ses or get ass f**ked by it!

cant exactly call 38 mph speeding
speeding=exceeding the speed limit set for that road which is illegal

i go 40 in 30 zones if the conditions let me, it is lame speeding but it is speeding

Are you saying then that if someone get killed by a car doing 20mph that all speed limits should be dropped to under 20mph??

People get killed at all sorts of speeds...if a road has been safe for 40years at 40mph, what suddenly makes it unsafe at that speed??

Its all about money these days and nothing to do with deaths/accidents, infact the road deaths last year went up, not down, even with all these speeding fines being given out.

..and NO,before you ask, I have never been fined myself....

Simon.

Id be very hypocritical if I did. I think speeding and dangerous driving are too totally different things.

A source of income?? So what - if people stuck to the law then the govt would have no income from the cameras - thats what they want!

They would rather have no income i think, its just the stupid british public that continues to break the law and hand the money over!

Well I guess if you kill anybody whether exceeding the speed limit or NOT, you still gonna feel prity shi*ty for the rest of your life too??

Speed does not cause accidents, DRIVING DANGEROUSLY does....

I say more resonable police men should be put out to decide whos driving dangerously and whos strayed over the limit in a safe situation.

Id rather be pulled over and warned a few times a month than flashed and fined ever!

A person can make descisions a camera cant.

Dont be daft - they want people to get caught, if they REALLY wanted to reduce speed they would put more speed humps and other restricting devices in place. Where I live there are NO cameras in residential (built up any way) areas. They are ALL on long strait roads where people have enough time and distance to pick up speed and stray above it.

Think of fixed cameras this way - income vs expense. Say they catch 1m people a year (very conservitive) at £60. £60m income compared with the relative small charge of operating a camera. Also means they can employ less officers as they dont require as many traffic police. So theyre saving a mint and making even more of a mint.

Now tell me thats not a source of MAJOR income.

I think its down to the local police force to set there own fines but dont quote me on that.

DFN04 XZE - Do you ever speed - not even a few miles an hour?

Possibly to over take some one on a dual carriage way.

No one can say theyve never sped. Even taking into consideration that any car over say 7 years old prob isnt reading right on the speedo!

matt your f**kin wise mate everything you have said iv agreed with
Thank you, Im a very opinionated person but I like to think I dont talk rubbish.

My brother owns a clothes shop and has 3 points against him for doing 84 down a DC.

People he catches shoplifting get arrested and released to come back and harrass him. He caught a "druggy" nicking only 3 weeks ago, he was threatened because the guy was desparate when he realised he was going to miss his hit. The guy was released without bail and came back to threaten my bro again, the guy never goes down for shoplifting as all the courts are willing to do is put him on a voluntary drug rehab program.

Where is the logic in the british legal system today?

I think EVO summed things up quite nicely in the July issue myself:

"I think that most sentient beings appreciate that the speed kills message is an over simplistic one. But equally its fatuous to claim that speed has no effect on the severity of accidents, and only a fool would argue against rigorous enforcement in built up areas.

Its appropriate speed for the conditions thats wrong, not speed in itself. Sometimes driving at 20 mph can be 10 mph too fast. And sometimes it can be more dangerous than driving at 170 mph - plus"

I actually feel the British motorist is frowned apon by our government.

We are persecuted for doing something at once made this country great - enthuse about cars and or bikes.

The next step I hear is to lose road tax and fuel tax and charge by the mile.

Might make the dum ones think great I save myself £155 a year in road tax and 20p a litre if fuel but how much will they charge per mile?

Yeah I do - see my earlier posts in this thread - All Im saying is if people speed they should expect a fine, just like I do - the only reason the govt make money from the speed cameras is because of law-breakers.... I dont agree with people moaning about speed cameras, theyre the law - whether you disagree with them or not, its the way it is, live with it!

  300bhp MR2 Turbo

I guess we all have out opinions. Mine is that the law possibly needs revision.

I meant no abuse towards you by the way - dont want any arguments.
