36,000 mile service cop out!

  172
ive just had a bad experience with my local renault garage, they put 55 miles on my clock just to check the steering cos it torques steers all the time.

The mileage is just touching 35,500 so its due its service, however im reluctant to have it serviced at Renault. Ive decided to tackle it with my friend who is a competant mechanic. (He's just fitted a 306 S16 engine in his 205 gti, it moves!!)

Ive just got some Motul 300v 5/40 oil thats been recommended on here.

My question is this, what would the dealership do that we can't do our selves? And dont mention the stamp in the service book, thats sorted ;)

The plugs dont really need changing although im going to change them to Denso Iridiums. the car already has an induction kit so air filter is fine.

Where does the pollen filter go? and is this important.

a fuel filter?

Ive read the breakdown of the major service but what really needs doing considering im doing this with my friend. What about the belts?

Any help really appreciated, ta.

wouldn't touch the belts tbh.. not unless you've done them before.. & i dont think they need changing at your mileage either..

i'd have the aux belt done, as some have been known to fail and take out the cam belt too:eek:

the belt itself is only about 12 notes i think, bit fiddly on a full fat though

cheers lads

what does the aux belt drive then? the water pump/altenator?

Doesnt sound too hard if thats it but im no mechanic.

Plugs i would rather change for some better ones anyway.

I just cant justify giving the dealership £300 when ive no trust in them to take care of it properly. Id sooner give my mate £50 and watch/help him knowing that its in hands that respect me/it.

Im sure others feel the same. If we couldnt tackle the belt what would Rentech or similar charge to fit it?

I'd trust Renault more than mates unless they've been Renault trained personally.
Aux belt powers the power stearing the aircon if fitted coolent, alternator everything but the cams realy.
Renytech you'd have to ask possibly £150 for the belt along its a pain of a job the bumper and light have to come out to do it.
