36k service

  RenaultSport 172 cup
Alright guys, just wanted your opinion really. My cars due it's 36k soon and i'm not sure about this aux belt change. renault are adament that I don't have to change it till 72k, but the cliosport guide (excellent by the way!) advises to change it at the 36k. Whats the definitive answer?

secondly renault have quoted me about £300 for the service only, my local garage looked at what they do and quoted £160 for the service with the aux belt change, My cars out of warranty anyway so what would you do?

Cheers

Mikey

Tell Renault their away with the fairies !!!

It does need doing at 36k.

Also, if your local garage are any good then get them to do it. Even if your in warrenty youll still keep it provided they used original renault parts.

My local renault wanted 660 for the 36k. And my local garage (which turns out provided a better service that renault can only dream about) wanted much less then half that price !!!

I think a while ago the norm was 72k but they changed it to 36k as it was snapping... taking out the cam belt and then going to town on your engine. Could ask them to call renault UK just to see their face. Actually, it even says it in my handbook !

Ive always taken my car to my local garge instead of main dealer.
My local Renault are francise so they charge well over the top for everything!
Best advice like what ive done-find a good mechanic at a local garge and stick to them, im very fussy about who i take my car to.
Im also gearing up for my 48k service but ive still not changed my aux belt yet!
Is it a big job? What sort of cost am i looking at?

Ha i know, just checked my handbook the now and it's there in black and white. Makes me wonder why i used to take the cup there in the first place. The guy even showed me the sheet where it say's change on 72k!

My local garage opened the bonnet, looked at it for 30 secs and said be about an hours work plus parts. But a servicing and aux belt change for between £160-£180 cant be bad.

Whole service and Aux belt for £160 ! Very good price i think. Mine was quite a bit more then that, although i think the cups are easier to do the aux change on.

Would ask fred as he does these services and knows cost & time etc...

yeah i thought £160 was a bit cheaper considering Renault charge £300. Might go down to see them again to make sure our wires aren't crossed

I was told the same on my 36K service, they said just wait until the cambelt was to be done as this would be in the same area (They said doing the aux belt would need the bumper off taking 4 hours labour) I brought my cambelt change forward so got the cambelt an aux belt done at around 38K/4 years.

Just got back from Stealers, Cup was in for a 36k service and they aint done the aux belt. Useless... Just phoned them and there saying it isn't covered in 36k service and is an extra they want another 300quid. Absolutely livid!

£300 for a 5min job (on a 172 cup) and a belt that costs £8!

£292 for 5min work, not bad!

Tell me about it, Andrew at your place has been rung and im comin down your place next week for some decent service! Ringing him back tomorrow to get booked in. See ya then!

My cup is coming up for its 36k service can anyone recommend anywhere in the bristol area.

Yeah cups alot cheaper due to lack of aircon, and the tensioner doesn't need changing on the cups either :D

There s no tensioner on the Cups to change on the AUX belt.

The routing and the fact there more space makes the 172 Cup belt easy to chnage.

good plan. fairly pointless changing the aux belt if ur cam is due soon after. best get them both done at the same time as they will only chuck out the aux belt with the cam anyway. (not sure this applies to cups tho)

yep same on CUps AUX belt should be chnaged with cambelt as it has to be taken off to get to cambelt and even time its taken off should be replaced not reused.
