4 or 5 Gears

Hello,

ive seen a 1.2 1993 clio for sale, lookin threw the window the gear knob says it only has 4 gears!! (1,2,3,4,R). ne1 kno if it has a 5th gear or not?

think the early models had 4 mate

Some 1.2s were only 4 speed so it could be.

It will be a 1.2 RL (Prima) if its 93 & 4sp.

First I heard of that. My mams old H reg 1991 1.2RL had 5 gears and little else.

Was it not one of those 1.1 versions?

They did the RLs in both 4 and 5 speed.

But since he said it was a 93, the only 4speed clio made in 93 afaik was the RL(Prima)

1st, 2nd & 3rd are the same afaik and 4th is geared slightly higher than 4th in the 5speeds but lower than 5th in them.

Difference would be it wouldnt accelerate as quickly when you get to 4th, as 4th would in the 5sp.

Dont know but top speeds would more than likely be very similar, its just the engine will be pulling more revs with a 4speed box.

5th gear was an optional extra on most of the basic 1.2 models until 1995.
