4th gear crunch ?!?

Hi folks,
My 2008 Clio 197 (31k), crunches into 4th if short shifting from 2nd or if the revs are too high coming out of 3rd and into 4th. There doesn't seem to be much resistance, just a quick grind! The Clio hasn't been remapped (which I am considering cos the kangaroo when cold is annoying). It seems to me it must be related to revs but I would welcome any more educated opinions, and possibly some solution suggestions?!?!?

btw, would the remap help?

Gearbox will be knackered mate unfortunately. There are loads of 197's and even 200's having new gearboxes installed because of this 4th gear crunch.

Synchro damage - new gear box needed im afraid. Known fault with 197/200's - have a look at clio197.net and you will find out all about the joys of these gearboxes.

Speak to RUK regarding an out-of-warranty replacement.

Have a read over on 197/200.net and get on to Renault telling them it's not acceptable for a box to go after 31k.

I guess its a warranty job? I've heard some are on the original at 60k plus so must be good and bad ones

It won't be warranty on a 2008 car. Lol

Not just on that car but in general they will be replaced under warranty.

As above, contact RUK about a contribution on a replacement gearbox.

If you have had the car from new/bought from a dealer and have full Renault service history it will help your case.

Don't be agressive on the phone though, it'll get you nowhere! Customer services are a very helpful bunch if dealt with in the right way

I didn't tell you this but you can probably expect around a 50% + contribution.

I got 90% contribution and 5% from the dealer - my car was 4 months out of warranty but only had 23k miles on it. New clutch fitted along with new box - £56!

Thanks guys. Told my dealer, will be taking it in for eval this week. I'll just have to be gentle in the meantime!!
