5th gear making a wierd noise

hi have noticed today that when in 5th its making a strange grinding noise on accelleration but isnt actually losing any speed or power, is the box knackared?

I had this before xmas, in my case some of the teeth were missing off the 5th gear drive

how much did it cost you to repair?

I paid a gearbox specialist local to me £180 and a garage £200 for removal and refit of the gearbox.

also i have read on here that theres a nut that holds 5th gear drive on and sometime it works lose might be that but i am no expert
