72K Belts...

Cant find what im looking for, my 172 is coming up to 72k so the belts need doing. My question is do i need to change the water pump and dephaser pulley? Both seem to be find and not making any funny noises or anything.

You don't have to change either, the water pump is a 3 hour job if done seperatly, or 1 hour at the same time. Dephaser is highly recommended though, as its a whole new cambelt job to do if it fails just months down the line.

I presume its already had the belts done once as well being a 172?

That's good news, should the water pump fail will that mean new auxiliary belt at the same time?

I would be worried if you don't have proof of a previous belt change.

Yes was the first thing I had done 5 years ago when I first got the car. Shortly followed with a new exhaust.

Depends how old the kit is, I advise replacing the kit if its a year old should it have to come off. I don't re-use old belts.

I think il be fine with just the belts been change then, better book her in!
