A challenge..

Ok, had my new clio for a couple of months and already fcuked the back speakers so im looking to upgrade the lot except for the head unit (thats gonna have to wait till ive got more cash)

ive got approx £500 to spend and ideally want a sub, replacement speakers all round and an amp. im a total newbie when it comes down to ICE and with their being so much choice - i could do with some pointers..

any ideas / advice would be really appreciated, cheers

Darren

you want a sub

best bet is get a new HU then work from there, as amping the sub will be quite an issue with the OE HU

ideally i want to keep the display and control stalk...and i really need to replace the rear speakers as it sounds like sh1t right now..

whats the best way to go ?

IMO - spend about 250 on a HU - personally i would get an alpine say get the 7894rb from mcs direct - top of the range lasts easons modle (rrp 500) - exelent unit (i have one!!!)

then spend 200 on the fronts, a decent set of comps.

Then if you REALLY want rear fill get some cheap - say £50 coxails for the rear, but isn;t that nessesarry.

Then save up and get a 4 channel amp and a sub, amp will be bout 100-150 for a half decent one (perhaps a good one second hand) and sub will be about another 100.

then you will have a good sound system - plus cost in about 50-100 for wiring kits, materials for installing amp, sub box, sound deadening

If you want specific advice dont hesiate to ask!!!

lol, i remember the days when you were asking advice :D

as rorrie says is basically the right idea, you want to use the stalk and display, within a week of changing the head unit you will forget all about them, and using the head unit itself will become natural

it is a completely useless feature for lazy people IMHO

LOL - so do i, and i still do!!!

but yer i thought, damn ive got this great steeringwheel control, now i cant use it without spending £50 or so. but with the 7894rb you get a remote control, i use this i keep it in next to the window switch and its fine.

As for comps, well i have the polk momo mm455 - they cost about 200 from 001 mobile (rrp 500) as they are last years stock - not really a big deal. Ive heard allot about the dls a5 (i think) also about cystal (i think these are bambams fav. for SQ at this price!!) also MB quartz - but ive heard these can be v trebly.

if the rears are buggered, disconect them!! if you can go up to 600, then get the

7894rb http://www.mcs-direct.co.ukwww.mcs-direct.co.uk ( in the alpine sale section)

set of comps that you like the sound of - best to go and listen to some

then the rest on an amp - a good amp on sale at the mo are the mac attack amps if you were to get the 4075 that would be good and could run fronts and an amp well - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.ukwww.caraudiodirect.co.uk

top units for the price are the pioneer 77, and alpine 9815

best speakers in the £200 pound region (if you can get Polk Momos for £200, do it!!!!!! but stocks will be very thin on the ground now)

5.25" comps

Phoenix Gold Tantrum
Genesis A13
Crystal CSC50S
Orion P5.2

Focal - have no price listings for them, but are well worth a listen, very treble happy though

MB Quart - Same again, but i know that the RCE213 are around £200

i could however go on forever, but the choice is yours, best bet is to go into an ICE shop and listen to all the speakers they have, this way you will find the ones youi like

thanks for all the advice - gonna go into an ICE shop and check out a few of your reccomendations

will let you know what i go for..
