A couple of things.

  Clio 197
I've recently taken ownership of a ph1 172 and there's a couple of niggling things that I'm hoping I can be helped with.

1) The idle is rather lumpy/rough, the revs don't jump or judder, it just sounds to have a rough idle, almost like a cammed but unmapped car?
2) The engine has a lot of movement on idle, especially the right side of the engine (if looking at it from the front of the car).
3) The engine in itself is very loud when revving from the engine bay, hard to describe other than very loud moving engine parts.
4) It has a decat pipe on at the moment and it absolutely stinks of fuel when it's running, worse than I've ever known a decat to smell of fuel.

Are all these normal things for the Clio 1*2 motors?

Also, are there any Renault/Clio 1*2 specialists near the South West?
Thanks in advance and apologies if these are stupid/frequently asked questions, just need a bit of reassurance before I get to work on it.

I'll be your nearest specialist. Based in Glastonbury. It's certainly sounding like a sensor or even timing issue from what you've described.
What's the postcode of your place mate?
What sensor do you think it could be? The cambelt, dephaser pulley and aux belt were done in February or April this year, according to the invoices anyway...

Dan's really good. Where in the SW are you?

I'm based in Westbury, Wiltshire.

BA6 9LU. Closed until new year though.

Who did the timing belt? If it was just a general garage then timing is generally out.

No too bad a journey at all!

A company/garage called AutoStrada?
Tbh for what they charged to do the cambelt and dephaser etc compared to what I've heard people pay on here, it wouldn't surprise me if something was wrong...

My car had a local garage do the timing belts before I bought it. It ran like s**t! Had the belts re-done and it's so much smoother now it's unreal. Definatley worth checking.

Neither have I, I tried Googling them but it only came up with a car dealership type thing.

Ok mate brilliant, thank you. Is the timing something that can be sorted without having to do the belts again?

I'm just up the road from you in Frome. Have got family in Westbury so am also there quite often! My 182 had a very rough idle from cold (revs would jump about quite a lot). Turned out my timing was well out and Dan sorted it for me. Would highly recommend him.

Yeh, providing they haven't completely ballsed it up
Alright Dan, here's the videos mate, let me know if you think something has gone wrong, only just noticed my bloody EML light has come on too..!
You can just about hear the iffy idle, and can clearly see the engine shaking on idle.
P.S. I'm aware I'm missing an engine mount bolt, one is on order..!

Aaah, you own ATX. Known that car for a while now, started off in life as a 1.4. I remember it when it was all the colour of the engine bay, lol.

Can't help with the issue myself, but it definitely sounds rough. Get it into Dan's shop :)
