A few modding questions

Hey guys,

Ive got 18" Alloys on my car (MK2 Clio) and they are rubbing on my chassis (they have been since I got them) now its got to the point where I need spacers where is a good place to get some Wheel Spacers I went on Fleebay and they are £65 for 2x25mm spacers :O Quite extortinate if you ask me! Anyone know a good cheap place ill need 4 all round... Or anyone got any for sale that I can take off your hands? New or second hand is fine by me as long as they keep my pesky wheels from rubbing :rasp:

Last question... Im getting my wheels shot blasted and power coated they are currently silver spokes with chrome lip now im thinking red spokes and black lip what do people reckon? Here is my wheels:

Think I should go with the red and black theme?

Cheers

Nick

2 for 65 aint too bad i presume their solid iron or steel not a light alloy type if you do get delta mics (their cheap and very heavy) be wary of the bolts few horror stories on here about them snapping etc! Or bite the bullet and get some decent FK H&R ones but their over a £100 for 2!

Re: A few modding questions (feel free to move if in wrong forum)

Wow! ouch that's a fair big price so £65 brand new is about the price I should aim for? I think they are solid metal I'll get the link... Actually just looked I can get 4 hubcentric 25mm wheel spacers for 50 odd quid

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-CLIO-...287?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c5b4dc0b7

Would they fit my car? My wheels have screws that go into the hub not the other way round (bolts petruding from the hub)

Thats only for 2 spacers its the pcd i think your looking at 4X100 its easy enough to fit with bolts and nuts a lot of peeps do the stud conversion for track cars as its easier to change wheels, only problem is no locking wheel nuts

Ohhh damn thought I found a bargain... So I cant have locking nuts if I get them on?

Dont think so fella as its just a nut, i may be wrong as i've never had a stud conversion my self, but i know you dont use your standard wheel bolts (including the locking wheel bolt) So i'd presume its just a standard nut!

Imo dont get those wheels powder coated leave them as they are, plus in 3weeks when u realise they look jank and you want to sell them you will find it easier.

It doesn't look like they really need spacing much maybe think about buying some lowering springs?

If you really want to go an buy spacers if you are going for anything bigger than 20mm get proper spacers IMO (the bolt to hub type) and get some made but a decent company - eibach h&r .... If you want to keep the price down look out for some second hand spacers they often pop up on here or egay!

Thanks guys the wheels themselves aren't rubbing by alot they have rubbed a patch about 20mm x 20mm ish on my chassis all round so maybe I can get away with 5-10mm spacers or something as I don't really want the wheels protruding much from the body

Sorry to say but wheel choice is terrible. Forget the looks what effect do they have on the gearing or dont you go above 50 ! Must have plenty of ground clearance.... u planning on doing some off roading...

I love the wheels my mechanic said we will put 18's on I was intrigued as to how he would do that... when they was on I was convinced they was the right choice and im not interested in going fast the speed limit will do for me :)

will the 18s not put alot of stress on the gearbox? im in same voice as everyone no bigger than 16's on any small car

Im not sure the car seems fine and doesnt struggle that im aware of with the wheels on? I could be wrong though im far from a mechanic and I try not to push the car either way as with the ammount of police about these days doing nothing useful but trying to catch cars not criminals id rather keep slow

So what choice alloys do you think I should get in the 16" range? Standard renault ones off a cup or some aftermarket ones? Im not up for spending alot of money as them alloys cost me £200 and ive had them on since october

Whack them on eBay. Some idiot will buy them...

Clios don't handle well on 17s, and 16's arent amazing. They must be awful.

I'd get 15 or 16" wheels .. OEM look just fine TBH, OZ F1s suit the ph1 .. ultraleggeras, superleggeras also look good .. Speedline 2110s in white maybe if you like 5-spoke ?

Have a look at a few thing on here and see what you think.

At the end of the day, it's your car .. but 18's look hilarious.

I still dont know how to get a membership lol ive looked and looked but no cigar :(

(saying that I dont think im keeping the car much longer as i might be getting a saxo in august I just want a bigger engine lol )

Can anyone link me to the membership payment page please?

Thanks Giraffe (Dont know your proper name) :p I will get some of them alloys looked at and I know they look funny but I wanted to be different and it makes alot of people look (some giggle ill be honest) but thats what I wanted something that stood out from the other Clio's out there lol

Just keep it simple.

OEM+ works best IMO with something as stupid looking as a Clio... They're too short (wheelbase) to pull off big wheels, plus it just ruins the handling.

OEM + coilovers. Spot frikkin' on, if I do say so myself !

:approve:

Wow, 18's....

I can only echo TEG's comments, smallers wheels really are the way forward, whether it takes you a week or 3 months to realise it, you will.

I did.

My first car was almost exactly the same as yours (although the darker red) and I put 17's on it at first. After I fitted some Ph2 172 16" 5 spoke alloys, it handled and looked so much better.

If you don't want those O.Z's can you PM me the link, I'll buy them 100% for mine.

A picture of mine on 15's:

That looks sweet also! Im looking for some EXTREMLEY subtle bumpers aswell ive looked at the Williams F1 body kit as it does look nice not over the top but that bumper there looks real nice! not over the top and subtle

Could be worse, could look like this...

Make the investment in a decent set of wheels and tyres mate.
172/182 wheels are a good shout as are OZ F1's.

Williams F1 body kit ?
