When I had my mx5 (mohair not vinyl) I used some stuff by a company called Moss iirc which repelled the water by making it bead and run off, also stopped it from going green, get yourself over to the MX5 club forum though, they will know whats best and are quite helpfull, they'll also appreciate seeing another BBR owner.
