i think its a very good idea if you dont no much about cars £150 is well worth paying and could be alot cheaper than buying a dog of a motor and having to spend god knows how much money to put it right

I'd find a mate who is clued up & can look, if you can't find one go the aa/rac route.

Years ago my uncle had a company inspection on a golf, the inspection was that good, the bloke never clocked that the car was a cut & shut.

not sure about them, although i might say that as i'm fairly comfortable looking over cars like this myself

i think you get a HPI check in with the inspection though (?), which is handy

last time i had one done (fair old while ago now), the guy was quite thorough and it was worth doing imo; i think i 'saved' the cost of the inspection by being able to haggle the cost of the car down due to the issues he'd found

as with any inspection, there's a limit to what you can look at without borrowing the car and putting it into the garage for a couple of hours to have a really good look at it. with that in mind, there are still things that any relatively casual inspection could miss - there's still an element of luck of the draw

the aa or rac test drive the car as part of inspection and it takes a couple of hrs to do the whole thing

Yeah but if the dude who comes round is clueless you'll be no better off.

Read up on here (loads of threads on what to look for) or take mate who knows cars with you :)
