About to buy a 197 - couple of questions!

Hey guys and gals. I'm about to buy a 2nd hand 197 in albi blue and I've just got a few questions that I'd like to run by you all before i go to see the car in next few days.

This keyless entry and start button stuff... After watching Top Gear and seeing Hamonds car get driven away a bit by Clarkson - does this apply to the clio too? If so what are the rules of distance etc and is there anyway (apart from locking the car to keep them out) I can prevent one of my dickhead mates from doing this to me?

Im possibly looking to get the alloys refurbed to look like the brushed aluminium ones that you get on the Lux model. Is this possible and whats the ballpark kind of price I would be looking at?

Last but not least, how do I contain the excitement in the days coming up to the collection date of the car?!

Sorry for the long post, just want to try and get this out they way just now just incase I get some salesman who doesnt have a clue what he's talking about when it comes to the 197! Thanks guys, look forward to hearing from you.

you need to be about 2-3 foot for the key card to open the doors and have the card in the car somewhere for it to start

The wait is unbearable! Just think yourself lucky you arent waiting for the factory to make you one over sumemr shutdown!

Yours is broken then

You litterally have to be stood next to the car for it to open. Ive tested this, I held my keycard at arms length away from the car and used my other hand to try and open the door and nothing happened.

Your mates won't be able to stop the car once its moving either.

^^^maybe yours is bust?

Think it says in the handbook you have to be 1 meter away anywhere from the rear or sided of the car. My misses has opened the car first even tho i have the key and im about a meter away.

It is funny wen you let your mates sit in it, then they get the really original thought of trying to start it and drive off without you only to realise they cant and watch the fail on there face!

Lol, the fail look is priceless! My mates tried this one, the key is pretty good, opens it from about a meter away but it detects wether the key is inside the car or not before it will start! As my mate found out! FAIL

LOL maybe, but if it is, its bust in a way I like!

there is a diagram of the detection zone in the handbook, and there is an area right next to the rear quarter panel where you have to be stood virtually next to it to get it to unlock.
Also if you have a mobile phone in your hand when you open the handle, this can also interfere with the signal and make it weak.

In terms of how to cope with the wait - no easy answer to that, I'm in the same boat and wont be able to pick my new car up until payday at the end of april!!

I had a Laguna 3 loan car for 2 weeks and one of the lads sat in the drivers seat while I was standing outside less than a foot away. The engine wouldnt start even though I was standing that close. The key card has to be actually inside the car to be able to start the engine.
