abs speed sensor conversion

i want to know if it is possible for me to get a speedo reading from any where other than the sensor in the gearbox, i have a ph1 172 and i think im away to fit a JC5-130 gearbox to it (with no speedo drive port)

can i just run a wire from my abs ring or can i get a renault garage to program the ecu to take it from a different sensor?

Spot on that's all i need to know. It would be better to cover up the speedo on the cluster. Like on a bike if it's not there you don't need it?
