Acoustic Valve

  Megane 265 Cup
Ok, noob question time :)

What on earth is an acoustic valve and why do people go about removing them?

Thanks

It makes the car quieter so it complies with eu drive by noise regulations,
most people remove them so they can get more air to there induction kits.

Oh interesting, is it worth removing with the standard box still on the car? Anyone got a pic of where it is located? I dunno what it even looks like to be honest...thanks.

Yeah, some people remove it, makes the car sound more growly.

Not easy to get a pic of it as its behind the passenger wheel arch.

here is the guide most people use to remove it, lots of pics aswell.

I'm running a V6 espace airbox (JMS Induction setup) with no cold air feed
and ive left my acoustic valve in, can't be arsed to remove it.

It does nothing and doesn't affect the noise at all

Driven mine with it on and off - and it makes no difference

Just means the cold air feed rattles about with nowhere to bolt

Thanks for the input guys, will take that into consideration fuzzy, only reason it may come off is to get a CAF right down there.

i removed mine with no problems, its a dead easy job. cant notice any difference to be honest but im not putting it back in because it doesnt seem to serve much of a purpose being there.

its a valve that opens and closes on on a secondary inlet depending on manifold pressure at certain rpm, and maybe a cold start inlet.

I've just got rid of the standard CAF from it altogether and it sounds far meaner! Bearing in mind the JMS setup doesn't use it either.
