acurate describe the rattle please

Having driven my buddies mk1 172 he just bought I decided I gotta have one so test drove a mk2 172 today and it has rattles under the floor.

Ive read all the other posts about the soft engine mounts and heat shields and stuff but mostly people refer to it as a knocking in 1st or 2nd.

This cars problem isnt a bang or knock but a very fast vibration under the gear stick at about 5000 revs even when not in gear.

Now is this the same common problem or maybe something worse?

Also when is the first cambelt change due on these and what happened with that letter that everyone was sending to Renault about the rattle?

I think the baging that is talked about and you mean is the engine knocking on the subframe??

Ive not heard of any other vibrating from around the gearstick, nearest place to that with a problem is the mid-section silencer. The 4K rattle...

Sod the problems, most can be sorted quite easily, get a 172!

Could this be the heat shield rattle ?

Agree with Dan the rattles are easy to sort out and to be honest have been a tad exaggerated.

sounds like the 4k rattle, mines got it, get them to sort it as Renault charge £500+ just for the centre section (the bafflers are loose in it) or even better, and cheaper, get them to put a ss exhaust like a Magnex on for you.

I have a squeaky, knocking noise form the top driver side engine mount. Starting to get on my tits now.

When going at slow speeds and easing off the power, thats when you can hear it. Also when you turn the engine off and the engine shudders a bit, there it is again! Anyone else had this kind of problem.

Anyway, apart from the knocking and rattles, Id recommend one to anyone!

is this 4k referring to the revs? i dont think its the exhaust cos surely it would be blowing or something if it kept vibrating all the time it would loosen up??? and you would hear it when ticking over? i personally think its just the heat shield!? and i dont think you would only have a rattling problem at 4k if the bafflers are loose in a centre section exhaust?!!
