advice needed! (172 ph2)

i think my exhaust is knocking on my subframe. everytime i put the power down hard there is a loud knocking and goes when i let off. its only when i put the power down hard. i have been advised that lowerin may have caused this but im not so sure. any suggestions?

Lowering would not of changed anything in that area. Sounds like a worn stabiliser bar and/or other engine mounts.

its been a while since ive been under one but if you have a 1.2 16v like your pic then the exhaust shouldnt be touching the subframe unless they have changed it?

very common problem mate. Sure mine does the same. Swapping my dogbone mount and gonna try levering the engine forwards slightly on the other mounts as first attempt.

i had this problem and my engine mount had completely snaped. just drilled it and moved it as 4ward as pos it stopped the exhaust touching. cost me next 2 nothing 2 fix

Its because the top engine mount is fucked. That will contribute to the knocking noise aswell.

fixed it now! :rasp: it was the top gearbox mount under the battery. just slackened it off and pulled the engine forward and tightened back up and now it fine.

but alot of the decent independent specialists are ex-techs and are obviously more than capable eg the guys at birchdown. i think half the time its just to do with over inflated dealer prices and a small minority of techs who either don't know there arse from elbow or have literally just learned to walk erect that morning that end up giving yourselves a bad name. there's always a small section of useless people in all trades tbf
