Advice on buying a Mk1

Car  182 BG
Hi,

I'm looking to taking my first venture into the Clio world, and have got my heart set on a Mk1. Obviously it'll be a little 1.2 or something, as i don't have the funds to invest in anything sporty. So my question is, what do I need to look out for when going to look at one, what seem to be the common faults?

Thanks

Hedgaskets, wheel bearings and rust.

Headgaskets: Check the oil and water in the car when its stone cold. Make sure there is no white mayo looking gunk in either. Drive the car for a good 30 minutes and get it nice and hot. Check the oil and water again and make sure they're not trying to hide anything.

Wheel bearings: These will make a droning sound on test drive.

Rust: Look around all the rear arches and sills and make sure the car isn't full of filler. Bootlids also rot.

Apart from that the 1.2/1.4's are good little cars.
