Advice on buying Sport.

Hello all,

I am looking for a Renaultsport but not sure which to go for.

Upto about £10k to spend.

Going to be used for runaround and track days.

Is it worth spending the extra money on a 182 or should I just save my cash and go for the 172?

Is the cup too harsh for running around in?

Looking forward to your help.

Mike.

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
182 cup is basically the same as the standard 182.

the real difference is with the 172 cup, which is vastly different to the normal 172 and 182 cup. If your overly bothered about trackdays then the 172 cup may give you better feedback.

But any of them are good.

Its up to on the 172 v 182 depends whether you prefer the look of the 182 to the 172, as they are both practically the same thing.

Sounds like you need a cup & then you can have £000's left over.

get a cup and become 1 of the many cupeteers!

  mk1 172
If you want to spend that sort of money would it not be benifical to buy a mk1 172 or an early mk2 and spend the money on mods. ie, suspension, decent exhaust and then some GDI type work - head, cams etc??

Just my two pence worth!

I'd go for a 182 with Cup suspension or if not one with none Cup suspension and invest in Some H and R coilovers.
Stock 182 setup cup spec or not still isn'tthe best its just a happy mediaum for all owners for track work you want it a bit harder.

  FN2 Type R +MK6 Golf
I'd go for the cup if you want the track use.Its quicker as standard than the 182's on the track so its a cheaper option for you to then play with a couple of grand on nice bits to enhance an already great track car

Yep. I was meaning a none cup packed 182 with H and R is better than paying the extra for a cup suspension packed car. None cuped cars are cheaper so you can use this to offset the H and R costs. A Cup packed car with then H and R is more expensive and no different than a H and R with 182 cup hubs.
Blimy that sounds complicated.

ah i get what you mean now.. more economical to get a cheaper non cupped 182 and fit the H&R's.

doesnt the cup suspension have other benefits though apart from the shocks n springs? wider track?

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Had a go in a 182 with Cup pack today, 6k miles on it and screen price was £11999 but as it was one of the many Reg Vardy cattle marts they were negotiable.

Reminds me of the good old days of my youth before the wife and daughter came along, XR2,Astra GTEs, 205/306 GTIs,etc.

Only thing is, there were a few bangs and knocks mainly at low speed poss exhaust and there was absolutely no grip on a little back road I took it on poss s**t tyres(Nankang or some crap)

Havent found a 172 Cup locally yet (North East) to have a closer look and try out.

Cheers

Mike.
