advice on which laptop to buy?

Customer service is for people who shouldn't own laptops/PCs. Build and maintain it yourself, it's a hobby and you learn cool stuff too. Also there's no need to wait in line to talk to halfwits either.

You're talking pony. we had a laptop where the NIC and touch pad failed, dell came out next day and replaced the motherboard, keyboard and touchpad. Took him about 2 hours. For free. Why would u want to do and pay for that urself? Not everyone has the time to sit around building PCs

I'd like to see most people "build and maintain" a laptop.. Hardly the same as building a desktop really..

As Clart says if it covered by warranty then get someone else to do it.

Perhaps you'd rather get messy underneath your car rather than take it back to the dealers to fix for free??

i guarantee that andy182 has taken his car back to renault at some point to get something fixed under warranty. Its a very good comparison griff

It's not the same at all. PCs and laptop can be maintained without specific equipment being bought and maintained. You don't need to purchase, site and maintain ramps, tools, test equipment and consumables to maintain a laptop/PC.

Screw driver, a net connection and a little technical savvy and you're fine.

well..i bought the acer everyone :) been to get it this morning with my grandad. man in comet tried selling me everything! grandad had to say no like 100 times before they gave up grrr!!

anyway, got the acer laptop for £599, an LG fancy mirror USB drive 512MB for £29.99 and a plain black case for it for £24.99

just setting it up now, transferring all my files from this crap computer with that USB drive thing to my laptop. i'm a happy bunny! :)

cheers andy, just hope i dont have any probs with it then eh? hehe.
had to get it from comet, don't think pc world or currys had it and my grandad doesnt trust online payments with his card..grrr.

any problems within warranty go straight to acer, they picked my laptop up from my work and sent it back within 4 days, motherboard replaced.

Any problems outwith warranty, aaronc on here's company offers a repair service now.
