Advice please

  Slow red one
At the end of March i'm going to be taking some photos for a friend who's a hairdresser and runs her own place, she's asked me to come and take photos of some models that she will obviously style so i'm wondering what the best equipment/setting would be for this? Is it worth me buying a flash for this since i've been wanting to for a while anyway?

currently got cannon 400d with 18-55mm lens it came with.
Thanks in advance

Best thing to do research into what the 'normal' look is of this type of photography.

It might be worth buying a 50mm f1.8, they are only about £80 and will give you some nice shallow depth of field shots which often suit something where you want to remove background clutter...

Flash might be useful if you can get to grips with it quickly. A badly used flash looks awful, but used well might help out in the lighting stakes (maybe worth getting a £15 ebay remote for the flash too)

A lot of it depends on what the client wants and what the place your shooting allows (natural light etc...)

Get her to find some example shots, then post them up here.

But I'm thinking at leaste one flash is going to be essential to give any real depth to the images.

I would say at least 2 lights. A main and a hair light. Google 'strobist', good PDF guide you can download.

Thought about hiring a light kit or any mates in uni that could borrow the equipment for a few days?
