Advise on throttle bodies

Hi all Im looking to get a 172 very soon as there looking like a great little car from what I'm reading. Just wanted some advise on throttle bodies as I've always preferred twin 45s & always worked with them.

Can I use any Jenny throlle bodies? Ie if I go on eBay see a set with a manifold for say vauxhall can I still use them minus the manifold? Are throttle bodies all the same it's just the manifold that's different?

Can I use any management? Ie if I buy emerald for a golf can it be remapped & plug changed for a Clio?

Any other advise would be great thanks

P.s I know the cost etc just want to understand bodies abit better.

For you the only tricky part will be the wiring for whatever management you use. The manifold for the 172 is readily available off the shelf as well

Not all bodies go on all manifolds, but if you find secondhand jenverys or similar for which there is a 172 manifold then you should be ok.

With regards to management, it depends if its a completely stand alone system or if its a plug and play one designed for another car with regards to how easy to fit it will be.

Are you getting a phase 1 or a phase 2 172?
Management is lightly different in that the phase 2 has a fly by wire throttle which means you need to swap to a manual pedal to run throttle bodies.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
depends on the type of bodies. DCOE and SF are different. The Jenvey manifold for the F4R is designed for SF throttle bodies, not DCOE (although it can be done but you need adaptors and it's a fair bit of extra work)

ECU fitment is down to correctly wiring in, then configuring sensors. Not a fan of Emerald at all personally but some people love it

So sounds like I need sf bodies then, i don't mind the ph1 but I'm really starting to edge toward the ph2. I haven't had a track car for awhile due to buying a house etc so I wanna go bit mad with this one make up for lost time. I only say emerald because there's a lot knocking about and them seem good, if anyone has used anything else and rates it that be good to know. If I went emerald im sure they could make a loom for me.. Thanks for advise! Gonna start searching fleebay

Are you planning on mapping it yourself?

If so I would avoid emerald as the mapping interface is rubbish, especially for road mapping, if you are getting Dave walker to map it for you though, its a good option as he gets on fine with it and is a very good mapper.

Omex is a popular choice on clios, and its a lot nicer to map than emerald.

Depends on your budget too of course, megasquirt is a cheap way to go and far better featured than most ecu's but you need to be careful who you buy off as there are some shockingly built examples, shame cause the core system itself superb

If budget wasnt an issue at all, I'd personally go for Autronic SM4, thats what I have for my turbo vtec clio Im building.

if you're considering throttle bodies I'd go with the a ph1, on the basis you won't have to faff around with the pedal assembly and they're just the better car

IMO.

As a road car I prefer the phase 2, as a trackday car I like the phase 1.

horses for courses i guess :)

DCOE's are fine i used them, but you'll be spending £320 on a manifold and adaptors. The adaptors need widening out to be perfect too (i just filed and then sanded them, took a while).

I don't think I'll map it myself I'd rather have it done with a rr to see what I'm getting & I think it turn out better. What sort of price should I pay for a ph1? As I've only looked at ph2 which I've found from 1300-2500, around 2k is where I'm finding some nice examples.

2k should get you a nice Ph1. or even less if youre just after something to rip the interior out of............
