Aerial

Hi,

About two weeks ago, my beesting aerial was pinched from outside my house. With this type of aerial, the actual aerial was taken but the small (grub) screw was still left in the aerial base. Instead of buying a new beesting aerial, I wanted to put the original one back on, which meant removing this grub screw. Anyway, to cut the long story short, I managed to remove the screw but also the metal shoe that sits inside the base. I have just tried putting this shoe back into the base and pushed it in too far so it's now sitting on the roof part and I can't get to it.

Does anybody know if it's possible to remove the aerial base from either outside or inside the car so I can get this metal shoe back out?

Or do I just get it booked in with Renault for them to replace the aerial base, etc...?

A new base (if it's not got sat nav) is about £15 from the stealers. You'dd need to get the head linnig down in the car & from there.

I went to Renault yesterday and they said a new base is approx. £25 and to fit it is approx. £50 on top so £75 (+ VAT) to supply, remove and replace a new aerial base!!! Sod that for a laugh! Just because some chav tw*t stole mine. Grrr.

How easy is it to pull the roof lining down and get access to this nut that I've been told holds the aerial base in position?

Prices have gone up:( it's not overly hard to get it down, you won't need to take it down that far, you could do it yourself :)

Well an update. After spending a few days away this weekend, I got back yesterday and thought... right, I have to fix it.

Three hours later I did it! Haha! I have NO tools whatsoever but the only one I had to buy was a 22mm ratchet, which had a deep socket to reach the nut within the roof liner.

I ended up pulling the liner down slightly but only so much to gain access, which meant the middle seatbelt had to come out (where it fixes to the roof), the side rear doorcards (where the rear seat belts go into) and then had to pop off the two smaller doorcards above the side rear windows. It was such a fiddly job but I did it so saved myself £75-£100 but I took a couple hours longer than Renault would have done.

I just need to put a couple of the doorcards back on and the rear seats as I had to move them out the way in order to remove a couple of doorcards that had the roof liner sink behind them.
