would i be right in saying that a simota aeroform taken off a 182 would fit directly onto a 172??

Yes its the same fit but if you havent bought it already i wouldnt bother, I had one and other than sound it gives naff-all gains. If you want performance gains your better off sticking with original air box and panel filter, take off the top CAF and you get induction roar with it too!!

not got one yet no, thanks for the advice, think i will stick to the original box as i dont fancy spending 200+

Yeah good choice when i was having some work done by JMS they explained that apart from a maxogen the best gains from the airbox is by fitting an upgraded panel filter and removing the top CAF and accoustic valve, its also plenty loud enough when you give it the beans!!!
