Air Bag Batteries

  Clio Sport 1.2 16V
Morning,
I have been reading through my Hayes manual looking at all items that should be done during a 72'000 mile service and one of the tasks was to change the air bag batteries. It recommends that this should be referred to the dealer.

How much would the dealer charge for doing this - Arnold Clarke are hardly renowned for their reasonable pricing. Are there any other renault dealers who would be cheaper?

Is this really necessary after 4 years?

As usual all info appreciated.

Mike

So I take it that this is not something many people have done since noone has replied - quality - saves me some cash getting them done

As far as I'm aware airbag's do not have a seperate battery from the main one under the bonnet. After xxxxxmiles however it is preferred that airbags are replaced with new ones just because of wear and tear-it's not like they can be tested after all. Personally I think its just the car manufacturers covering themselves in case of accidents etc. Dont worry bout it, put the cash towards an xbox 360!

i think airbags just use a capacitor that looses its charge after an hour or so and recharges as soon as you turn the ignition back on

Yeah - I would have thoguht the same but the haynes Manual spacifically tells you to replace them every 4 years.

I cant find anything on the net about it and no one else seems to be doing it as standard practise so I'll give it a miss.

Cheers
