Air bag warning light

We have just purchased a 172 (y reg) for my partner but it has developed an intermittent problem. The air bag warning light and the serv light intermittently comes on for a period of time and then goes out. Despite the local dealer having the car in and fixing the problem (Which they didnt!!!) it still occurs. Obviously its a bad connection some where in the system, the dealer said it was under the passenger seat. Ive spent a few hour myself trying but no joy. Has anyone out there got any ideas?

The seats are the most common, check both of them if i were you. normally gets resolved by the dealer as its a well known problem

Have the same issue, when I adjust the passenger seat, crappy wiring under the seat.
Ditto! mine was same. adjust seat or get it soldered !

This problem is the Pretensioner connections going open circuit due to the dodgy under seat connectors. and it puts the Airbag light on.

On the Early cars the solution is to look under each of the seats.. You will see a grey connector..

On the passenger side disconnect it and cut the Blue and Brown wires off both sides.. Then solder the Blue wire to blue, and the Brown to the other brown.. Make sure you use insulating sleeves over the soldered connections..

Under the driver seat there are two pairs of wires in the grey connector.. Only cut the Blue and Brown wires and solder them together as above.. Reconnect the connector..

On the facelift cars it is ONLY the passenger side connector that is affected.. So again cut and solder the Blue and brown wires..
