Airbag Problem!

I know this has been posted about before but...

My service and airbag lights have come on.
After two days of trying to get through to my dealer, Ive been told that the earliest they can get the car in is the 18th August.

When I asked if this will cause problems to the car if I continued driving - I was told "well they wont go off if thats what your worried about!! If you have a crash the airbags wont activate!!" He was helpful!!

Im not going out to crash my car, but you can never be sure it wont happen. Ive got some long journeys this weekend and next (to Donny South!). Do dealerships have slots where they fit in emergency cases If I was to go and camp on their forecourt would it do any good?? I would have thought that driving without airbags could be quite crucial!!

Or am I making a mountin out of a molehill??

I had the same problem and cured it by pushing the connectors (under the passenger seat), together.

Hi Pootle 172

It could be any number of thing connected to the airbag system that has caused the warning light to come on.

Invariably it is the seat belt pretensioner wiring under the seats.

It will be necessary to actually disconct the connector and then snap them back together. Please make sure the ignition is switched OFF when you take these connectors apart.

This is a short term cure and normally works. You will have to book it in to your dealer for a permanent cure.

Have you tried asking if you can go to another dealership to have it fixed?

If the car is under a year old you can go to any dealership to get it fixed.

No idea how old your car is so that maybe useless though.

Try finding a Renault Minute garage as they normally have enough people around to fit in any jobs that need doing there and then, find one and give them a ring, not a difficult thing to cure.

Edde my car is just over a year old, although Ive only had it since the beginning of April! Ive gone back to the dealership I bought it from for help, I have heard negative comments about another local dealership, so wouldnt go to them!

Bob cheers for that, Ill have a go in the morning...a little too dark right now!! and Roamer just had a look for a Renault Minute garage but there isnt one near here!! But Id never have thought of that so thank you!!
