Airbag/service warning light

  172, Tiguan

On my way home from work tonight the airbag and servive light came on, on the dash, car is a mk3 clio, any ideas how to fix, or why this has happened?

Otherwise means another 3 week wait to get the car into garage. Ive actually lost count how many times car has been in, 15 times in a year i think. would rather try and fix it myself.

wiggle the wire under the seat. If the light goes out temporarily its the cable and a bad earth from it.

im gonna book it in tomorrow morning, hopefully get a lunch time booking, that means wont be without the car for work. Hopefully its a bad connection, it happened in my mk2 as well last year, probably a common fault.

Otherwise their probably booking for early July.

If its not a loose connection though? where else could i look? everything else is working fine.

it WILL be a loose connection

im so confident in that, i would be prepared to place a bet on it, and i dont gamble

ah ok then, well ill even get up early before work and check!! Bloody Renos. makes me wonder why the orders going in for a Cup.

Cos ive gotta have one!!!

Loose connection where it earths to the car? or loose connection under seat?, or hidden under carpet/in dash?

My god you sound confident, might put it in the garage now and take a look!

hang on! back in a mo,

got to clear the garage first, good job parents away!

reaon i sound confident is i had the problem myself

went into reno, told them the problem and they said exactly what it was

well cant solve it, there is a big yellow wire, containing two smaller wires- otherwise there is a big taped up black wire going into floor- or other smaller blue/brown/orange wires going into connections that are hooked to the seat

had engine running all the time - neighbours must think im mad!

Phoned Reno garage, she said theyd like to get the car on a diagnostic machine asap, then said they could get me in next wednesday! urgent then......

...... then she said if the car had a problem theyd have to book back in again and they are currently booking for early JULY!

Wiggle all the wires, if ground is poor or lost the connection to the airbags in teh seat is lost and thats the light for yer. Just wiggle them all.

and JULY!!!

where do you live!

Dont know if this helps but exactly the same happened to my clio. Like bambam said it was a loose seatbelt pretensioner on mine. It took two trips to Renault Nottingham to fix it even though they said the first time they were aware of the problem and knew how to fix it.

When I get home from work Im going to take the whole lot out and check every wire around that area, might save me some hassle of dealing with Renault service.

just as everyone else said, wiggle the wires under drivers seat. Mine was playing up, and that sorted it. however,i did take to the renault garage soon after and they took out all connectors and soldered them instead! As soon as i said service light the bloke said, yeah its seat belt tensioners, so looks like there has been lots of problems with it.

Seems a bit of a fragile design, only clipped together in one place! the wires could easily get trapped under the seat mec!

Think we could make a killing with some sort of trunking system that keeps the wires together! actually...............

Its a very common fault on renos, not only on clios . Take it to your dealer and they will cut out the connector and solder the wires up. U cant do it yourself as they have to erase the fault from the computors memory.

Yes Renault know of the prob with Airbag/Srvs lights. Booked mt car in end of June and straight away they said "yes we know of prob" ect.

Said will take 2hrs to sort out but got loan car for day (other faults ect...)

I guess ur car is under one year old so u can take it to any Renault dealer so if you want to have to problem fixed asap just ring a few other local dealers. The problem is a normal Clio one though so dont worry. My local dealer acted amazed when i had it fixed but then ui found out all clios at about 6 months have this problem and that its cheaper for Renault to pay £40 to garages to fix it than re-design the cables.
