Airbag Woes !

  2002 172
Hi there,
2002 172 - can't extinguish service and airbag light.
I have sent off my airbag ECU to be cleared but, have a couple of questions.
1. If ,lets say, the seatbelt pre-tensioners have gone off, when I plug the ECU back in, will it just re-register those as faults and I'm back to square one ?
2. How do I check that the pre-tensioners have gone off ? I know to look for the sliders at the bottom of their travel but, surely someone could have just put them down low for comfort.
3. How do I check that any of the sensors are faulty?
Any thoughts on these questions or anything else I should be looking for would be most welcome.
Andy.

you need a proper clip doing, find a local specialist with the right software to plug the car in and read the faults or you are just swinging blind

Thanks for the reply.
I have a mechanic friend with an OBD 2 reader. It is showing faults 071 and 072 remaining after all faults reset .
After reading MANY threads and comments from the 'net, I'm thinking that it might be the clockspring.
I'll have a look at it.

As above needs scanning with can clip to see what faults are stored.

you need proper clip, not just a cheap ODB2 reader to get the correct information from the car really. but those two codes mean open circuit on both bags which does point to the rotary switch at fault

Well, I've just taken the steering shroud off and the plug top middle nearest the guages wasn't plugged in,!
I'm not going to strip it any further until I get the ECU back and try it.
You never know.
Just out of interest, does anyone know if removing the remote radio control stalk will throw up any fault codes as I think that I might have broken something on it whilst removing the lower shroud. It won't click back in to place, just flops about.
I have an aftermarket stereo fitted so it doesn't do anything anymore.

I feel your pain... ph2 172, only removed the rears and belts, correct resistors and still have lights. Will wait till I get the fronts out and then take it to a specialist with Clip as I’ve come to the conclusion that’s what it’s going to take to remove the lights from the dash
