airbags and the cables underneath how do they work

last weekend me and my mate went to get him a interior [full]
he has a 1.4 clio mk1 ph3 rt clio and it comes with all of that pretensionair stuff underneath with the purple clips. now we didnt really think and just uncliped them all. afterwards i thought, arnt the airbags supposed to come out if you just undo them. but we also forgot to clip them back in and he drove back with the airbag light on but again it didnt come out?
as i clipped the purple thing back in and turned the car on the liht went off and all is back to norm.
just want some opinions of what should of happend i.e. should the airbag have come out.

If you mean exploded by comming out then then nope they won't/shouldn't activate if there not plugged in.

I'm a bit confuessed by 'come out' too, but if you mean set off like edde said then no, they will only do that if activated by the air bag computer i.e in the event of a collision.
