Alarm Choice Help

Gday peeps,

the time has come to buy an alarm for my car. I want one with the following features:

Audible Alarm
Tilt Detector (so my wheels will be safe)
It must go off if someone stands too close for a length of time
Must bleep to tell me its been set
Goes off when doors are opened
i think thats about it. I quite like the Clifford ones cos they have a good reputation. The thing is i know fook all about alarms so need some advice/prices.

cheers!
Dan.

i just got a clifford 550 it has all those thing and beeps if you go neer the car to tell people it has an alarm you can start the car with the fob and turn the headlights on, i paid £300 supplied and fitted not thactram approoved though th next one up is but its also £50 more and doesnt realy have anything better to offer but it might lower ur insurence.

wow, i was expecting it to be like £500.

the feature i want the most is the proximity alarm. I want it to scare people when they stand too close, and if they stay close to the car there then i want it to go off.

The reason for this is because i work in a not too safe area with a rough estate across the road.

I quite like the feature of being able to start the car with the key fob too :)

anyone got any links?

try doing a search for sextons, they are the cheapest for alarms as far as i know. But also look outside of the clifford box, mine is a Meta alarm, full Thatcham Cat 1 system, and is the dogs, also think you may run into probs with insurance if you have remote start? But please correct me if i am wrong people.................

I am having a Top spec Toad Cat 1 alarm fitted on the laguna monday. Forget the model number now but i am paying £249 fitted. I have done the Clifford route and they are fantastic if you are going to use all the features. Personally I didnt so I wouldnt pay the money again for one when im not going to use it. But they really are great if you "must have" all the features.

after having done a lot of research recently into this as my car was vandalised with my clifford 300 on it. i wanted to get a proximity sensor like u suggested. however from what i understand it wont actually go off if people r near the car for too long. it simply beeps when someone is close and continues to do this until they move away. it never actually sets the alarm off which is annoying.

cheers peeps, ill look into it.

strange about the proximity alarm david, i thought it would have set the alarm off.

nah it dont set it off just beeps but thts enough forpeople to move, and to deter them away from ur car. im pleased with my alarm but wish i had gone for the toad cat 1 which is cheaper, ad would haev done everything i wanted it to.

mate me and my bro have got both prox sensors on are motors and when they were first fitted they actually wer to sensitive and after 2 - 3 beeps the alarm went off

we thought that they wer faulty but the guy who fitted them sed that you need to turn the sensitivity down so we did and now it just beeps lol

we decided to turn it down because the alam was constantly going off due to people and kids walking past the car

but you can set it to beep and then go off

You can get a thing called "digi-chirp". imagine 2 bubbles around the car, the first outside the car, and the second inside the car. If the outside "bubble" is penetrated (so someone is looking in the window) it will let off a chirp or a buzz in the Cliffords case, and if the window is smashed, it will go off as a normal alarm...they are good piece of kit, but may be better off with it as a separate unit from the locks, because if its raining heavy, it can keep chirping all night because of the heavy rain penetrating the sensors...I would recommend them, as its an audible deterrant, and there is the LED in the dash somewhere to deter the would-be scum.
