Almost Stalling, help

ok trying to find out whats wrong with my old car

my mate now owns it

1995 1.8 8v rsi

all engine standard, standard filters etc

anyway

he's said that the revs are being a pain, he said it will sometimes go down to 500rpm and almost stall

this is with the clutch in or at idle, he said twice in the last few weeks it has actually stalled rather than picking the revs back up

any idea would could be wrong

whats it most likely to be, or something we can check rather than going to a garage

well i took a look on the old forum where theres lots of good posts

going to try cleaning the ISCV and then maybe change the spark plugs as god knows when they got done

Do the lights brighten when you rev it?

Check teh gearbox earth strap, this solved it once for me, and then the other time i gave the ISCV a good clean, saying that miones started f**king doing it again, time to whip the ISCV off again and give it all another clean

Mines doing this but I know whats causing it.
It was idling at 500rpm so I checked the throttle cable and where it attaches to the throttle body theres a metal bracket with a plastic pipe bit on it. The plastic thing has snapped and theres too much slack in the cable so its idling too low and if you turn the wheel the power steering sucks the last bit of power from the engine and it stalls.

I glued it back together as a tempory fix until I can pop in into renault and now it idles about 800-900 rpm. Ive still got to keep the rev's up while Im trying to park to stop it stalling.
