Alpine Expert guy needed

I have bought a 2nd hand Alpine cda-7969r wired it up and the buttons light up but the screen is so dim you cant see anything unless it is totally dark and then you can only see a faint orange and a faint green light. If i put it in blackout mode then these turn off so i know that its not that. Help ?

mines the same mate ........... 9812RR...........i found it far roo dim during the day, mainly because of the angle the cd player sits at....

there is a dimmer control on mine but it only has 2 settings, and one only works if you have the wire connected......ive spoke to Alpine and if yours has the same settings, then Auto is the brightest....

on mine - the 7894rb - it dims only when lights go on - it may be that the dimmer wire - organge one i think - isnt wired correctly

BRUN - can you not change the angle of the front display to suit were you sit - wouldnt of thought they would have got rid of this function!!

if it is the orange wire try wiring it straight to the battery if you are using the standard power cable in the iso block.may be a faulty headunit or the contrast setting is too light.

NO, dont wire the orange wire straight to the battery for gods sake.. you could pretty much kiss your HU goodbye if you did. Could even cause a fire.

If the orange wire is supplied with 12v it thinks your headlights are on and will dim the brighness of the HU to make it easier on your eyes at night (if you unit is set to auto)

Otherwise you can dim it up and down manually.

i have never connected the orange wire up lol no point i never want my headunit dimming on a night not that ihave an after market one now :)

Ive connected my illumination wire up. Doesnt make much difference on the 9815.

Maybe the angle is just better in the newer clios :-/

sorry guys i meant the yellow wire.(which is useully the power wire) most alpines now with the v-drive amplifiers need a constant live to the batter with bigger power cable as the standard power cable in the car is not man enough to power it.

When i say so dim i mean it isalmost as if it doesnt work. its not a matter of it being in blckout mode or that the illumination (orange) is connected to the dimmer on the lights. Maybe a faulty HU

On the alpines u need to wire the 12v (Yellow) as a direct feed off of ya battery and you might as well do the same with the earth. Ice got 7894RB and whenn it was plugged into the iso block it just dimmed and was shlT. now i got them directly wired in its fine and touch wood ill have no probs!

It is wired off an 8 awg cable run from a splitter in the 2awg cable i have run from the battery the length of the car to the rear amp. The HU has no internal amp so i shouldnt suppose it would need alot of power anyway.
