Alpine HU and power cable

Ive a high power Alpine HU which the recommend using a separate power feed for, this is due to the higher current being drawn. Is there any cables in the car that are suitable for this? I was thinking of using the cable to the cig lighter as I really cannot be bothered running a cable straight to the battery!

The head unit power feed would be better than using the cig lighter.

if you feel the need then you have to run the cable from the battery

Haven spoken to Alpine tech advice and the shop the both recommend running either a feed from fuse box or bat, the reason Im not keen to do this is because il be installing my amp in soon so I wont need the higher current for the internal amp.

Id love just to plug it straight in but dont want to take the chance, however small of screwing the electrics up.

Just dont turn it up too loud! Worst you will do is pop a fuse if you do exceed current ratings for the cable, the fuse should blow long before the limits of the cable are reached unless someone has changed it.

But I av to on a friday nite cruise dont Iiiiiii?? ;)

Thats what Ive been thinking, Ive been told the averaage current draw is about 10-12A which is what the cables should be able to take anyway.

Arse.Why cant things be straightforward?!

To be honest my 2004 9833 dont require a direct feed.

My last headunit, 9786R needed a direct connection, but i ran it off the beefy-ish red headunit power.

I bought a new alpine headunit the other day which is 4x60. Ive run it off the existing headunit power cable with the inline fuse supplied.

It booms all my speakers out no probs which are all aftermarker numbers and it is crystal clear so i take it that its being powered fine.

i have run mine from the battery abecause at first it was dimming my lights off the standard wiring! as soon as i have run it from the battery it is sweet and i also have a powerfull amp running 2x 12" subs!

Make sure you have the std size fuse in the fuse box for the head unit and just wire it up to the std headunit cables.

If you blow the fuse then you need to run it to the battery, but more likely it will be fine.

The fuse will blow before the current reaches anywhere near the limit of the cable so you wont have a problem with damaging anything.

Just never put a bigger fuse in and youll be fine.
