I am having a few teething problems with the 172 lump that ive dropped into a renault 5.
The main one at the moment is that the alternator is charging my battery at 15 volts. The alternator gets very hot and so does the battery (as you could well imagine)
Anyway the basic fact of it is on the gtt wiring there is the +ve wire that runs from the starter and then two small wires one which turns on the regualtor and one which controls the dash battery warning light.
If i disconnect these two wires the car runs but will eventually flatten the battery... Has anyone got any ideas why the alternator would charge at 15v? is there no regualtor on a 172 alternator and does the ecu somehow control the voltage it produces or something?
I'm running it on a DTA ECU you see, so i could be missing something that the ECU controls to vary the charge volatage?
Any ideas?
Cheers Ashy.
