Alternator?

car is a ph1 1.8 16v

And in town the other night my battery light came on and stayed on but everything was still working fine. the next night i took it out (light still on) got about 5 miles down the road, wipers n that started slowing down so pulled over n car cut out then wouldnt start, gave it a minute n she started fine again so took it home and the same started to happen by the time i got there.

Checked the battery and it isnt charging when running so thought it might be the alternator or the wiring thereabouts?? is there any way i can check if its shagged or anything else i can check? and if i was replacing it does the alternator have to bo from a 16v?

Halfords also offer free battery checks


They will probably be able to tell you it is not the battery it is X or Y etc assuming the battery is ok that is
