I got a flat headed screw driver and prised the old grey plastic one out. Made a nice mess of the old one, but doesnt matter as you have a nice shiny one to replace it with.

You can take you normal black button out with a flat head screw driver but it will damage the button not that it matters if you puttingthe silver one on

To take the silver one off push a flat head screwdriver up the bottom of the plastic hand grip (the part that your four fingers normally go on if you're applying the handbrake) push the driver up hard and the plastic sleeve will start to slide off very slowly as it very tight. Once the sleeve starts to move up towards the dash board it will reach a point where it pushes the silver button off without damaging it at all
