I bought mine with a patchy history so got the belts done straight away, only driving I did before they were changed was the journey to Danny at 159 lol

ive never changed a cambelt on a clio, i had a 52 plate cup till 2009. i changed my ibizas at 90k and that was fine. the time frame manufacturers give are guidelines. if you worry about it get it done by a specialist not john at the garage down the road.

There are bound to be many people who don't change the cambelt when it is due. Not everyone will have their car serviced when it is due.
But you are asking on a forum where most are car enthusiasts so they will have the belts changed when or before they are due, along with other jobs

Belts are always a gamble. A new one could go. It's just a risk one takes. Obviously you'd be pretty foolish to ignore the intervals.

Ford recommend 10 years or 100k on the FRS, and AFAIK it's not a chain. I mean like WTF? I will probably get mine done after 5 years.

My 182 is a 05 on 45,000 miles and hasn't had the belts done, iv had it 6weeks now, I havnt enjoyed it at all because I have it in the back of my head that's it's going to go. But I went to book it in last Saturday at Worcester Renault and they said it's £849 for the cambelt kit? Is this right? If so I'm saving for a couple more weeks!!

I'm the same mate. I'm just gonna get it done in the next month or so !!

Mine has only done 27k on an '04, and I really only use it for track days. Not changed belts yet. Spoke to a Renault specialist and he says 99% of the time its the auxiliary belt that takes out the cambelt. He said it seemed to happen more often than not when travelling at higher speeds/revs when switching on air con/climate, as it immediately puts presure on the aux belt. Said not to run climate on track for that reason.

think you might be the only one. for me personally, i wouldn't even drive a car if i was concerned about the integrity of the cambelt, but that's my view. you said you couldn't get it done due to funds, but three posts later you said you could afford it?! unfortunately it's not built as well as a german or japanese car. bite the bullet and get it done

Just been reading this topic i have a 55 182 wich i brought a year ago i have the timing belt to do ( my next job of endless others) also i have been told to replace the water pump at the same time ............ i have brought both as it was only £70 +vat for the belt kit and £15 +vat for the pump but now i find here is a dephaser to do ... what is this and what does it do? and is there is a schedule to change these at or is it just change it ?

Ive got a 55 plate 182FF on 53,000 without cambelt changes - going in next week though for the full lot. Dont know if this is any help. Scared to drive it myself at the minute because it doesnt feel too healthy lol

I think the dephaser pulley gives the cams extra lift, more power higher revs sort of thing. I've heard of these developing problems just after cambelt changes. Personally I would get it done. Its like changing a clutch and not doing the clutch bearing, you could end up with double labour costs

  Skoda Fabia vRS
anyone who doesnt get the belts done at the intervals, is bonkers

they DO fail, it WILL fail, i work at a dealers ive known it happen many times

the intervals on my Skoda are 4yrs or 60k IIRC, and its built better than any Renault

  clio 182
its not labour costs that the problem lol its just the costs of everything else as i have lituraly just brought a house and had to spend 30k on a deposit so moneys tight iam a mechanic by trade so the belt etc aint a problem just i have read that some people say if its not making any noise then dont change it but others seem to say yes change it as a matter of course.........
