amplifier's "protect" cutting in for no reason

i have the alpine MRP-F450 4-channel Amplifier as below;

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4586.html

and its hooked up to type r speakers and components

but it seems to have some safety feature cut in a lot and so i can only turn the music up to a fairly low level of sound and bass before it cuts out, as soon as i turn it down, it starts up again and carries on fine!!!

any ideas gang??

jamie

it has a couple of "gains" for channels 1+2 and 3+4

and it has cross over changes

i know nothing about this kinda thing mate, at all!!

it does mate but then as soon as i turn the volume up ( and its not that high) then it stops the music again. :(

The protection circuit will kick in in the following circumstances.

Low battery voltage.
High input level.
Short circuit protection.
High impedance output (damaged speakers).

So, what are you driving it with ?

Are the power and earth cables of sufficient size and is the +ive supply straight from the battery ?

Are your speaker the correct rating and in good working order ?

Have you got the input levels on the amp set to match the output of the h/u ?

Or have you just cranked everything up for maximum smoke ?

friend of mine is good with this stuff and has installed it, however

1; the power cable is from halfrauds original fitting so could be shite

2; speakers are brand new type r's

3; no idea about the input levels

4; no it was tuned and is no where near top wack

any help is greatly appreciated brian

Jamie,

I cant see a new amp and speakers both being defective, so you need to look at the power cable and earth.

If the amp cant get the supply it needs it isnt going to work and the protection cut-out is designed to avoid damage to itself in this situation.

First step must be to sort that out, then you will probably have fixed the problem.

Its also worth a look at the speaker wires to make sure there are no shorts and make sure they are man enough for the job.
