Annoying vibration from the interior light.

Since I've had my car there's been an annoying vibration from the interior light above my head. I thought it was something to do with the clifford alarm that came fitted to the car.
Well it was annoying me so much i took the whole light assembly out and had a poke around. There is a weird black tubular thing with a little motor in it vibrating away. I tried to wrap it in something to deaden the sound, but then got bored and disconnected it. Blissful silence.
Anyone know what this is? Is it an ioniser? Are these standard on the sport as I'd have thought they'd annoy most people. Anyone?

Its a little fan for the climate control. You can replace them, at which they go quiet, but eventually the noise returns.

Thanks mate. I'll reconnect it at some point, but at the moment I like the quiet.

mines does this but only intermitantly, t'is annoying
