Another Limp Mode...

  Tango'd PB 1.2 16V
Hi guys, before you say "read other threads", i've read a few, and got bored as they seemed unrelated, as this seems more of an electrical problem rather than car problem.
I've been using an unofficial iPod cable for 2 days, as my other one disintegrated.
Its fine, if not more practical.
On the odd time though, it cuts out the music and re-starts the head unit, whilst at the same time turning on some dash lights. Stop, Serv etc...
On the way home tonight, i didn't have my iPod in though, but it cut the whole system off, as in turned it off and wouldn't turn back on.
It then put the car into limp mode, which was handy as i was pulling out of a junction..
So i had to turn off the car and re-start it.
I got home fine, as the car was alright after that, but the annoying light was on, (The squiggly line over the engine thing?) which pissed me off.
So i turned the car off when i'd parked and re-started it a few times and it still stayed on.
So how do i turn it off?
Annoying piece of s**t.

If you believe it to be elctrical then you can work around it. Disconnect the HU to isolate that it is the problem. It may be complete coincidence that it has done this and you relate it to the ipod cable as it is new.

In your fuse box there will be one that looks a bit like a plug, replace this fuse as that controls your interior and dash lights.

As for limp mode you may want to look at replacing your coils and spark plugs.

Hope this helps and you sort it.

ive had a similar think happen to me with the limp mode you say its the coils and plugs that may need replacing?

Fixed my problem.
New iPod wire, replaced battery positive wire terminal, as it wasn't connecting properly and kept slipping off.
I knew it wasn't the plugs cause i replaced them about 2 months and 1000 miles ago.
Not too sure about the coils though, so will look deeper into that, so cheers.
Guessing it went into limp mode as a safety mechanism to not fry the battery.
But yeah, pretty certain it was the battery, and just a coincidence that the iPod wire kept faffing the head unit up, as it's not a proper 2.0 USB one.
