another magnex adventure!

yet another tale from owning a magnex, im really glad i got this now......not.

i got a new middle section from a member on here, without the middle silencer, so it would stop catching on every speedbump i pass over.

took it to a local independant who swapped the middle sections over for a tenner, i thought top job.

later on i noticed that the back box looked lower than it used to (about an inch an a half from the floor)... but this was 6pm so the garage was closed...

heading down a dual carrigeway last night doing 75ish last night i hear this clunk, then believe it or not sparks coming from the back, needless to say i did s**t it and pulled over into a lay by. looked at the exhaust and it had dropped down even more, resting on the floor, but it was still attached into the mount/rubber.

i tried lifting it up which it did, but wouldnt stay there. my mate jumped over a fence into someones garden (backing onto the carrigeway)... to try and find something to tie round it to hold it up so i could get home... he comes back with a washing line, lol, which we tied around the back box in the p***ing rain and round the mount on the chassis. this worked and the exhaust is where it should be, and ive covered another 150 miles with it on and it hasnt moved an inch...

now... has anyone ever had anything like this happen before.. like it dropping completely down with it still attached to the mount? Also, any idea how this can be fixed and so it dosent happen again???

cheers...

is the mount still in good condition, or is the bracket on the exhaust bent at all ?

lol exactly the same thing happened to me with the 1.2.
Why the hell did i sell it and get away from renaults to buy another clio lmfao.

Ahhh well.....

its not bent and its still like wedged in through the rubber, the cars only covered 20k miles and the mount looks to be in very good condition...

the washing line is still holding it on but i dont wana keep it like this lol...

well seeing as it was fine before, it's been poorly refitted due to the centre section, or theres a bend/damage to the magnex hanger.

at a guess lol

lol... i didnt acctually see them fitting the center section but from the speed they did it im guessing they didnt even remove the back box... just swapped the middle sections over.

il drop a pm to edde lol

is it me or i have read this right, sounds like its a fitter/hanger problem, and not the actual exhaust......

When i had my Magnex i never had any issues like this !!

It was fitted correctly in the first place and never moved since...

Sounds like the hanger is damaged or not fitted correctly.
When they re-attatch the centre section they need to hold up the back box to where it needs to be positioned.

THEN start to tighten up all the fixing bolts. Cat - Centre - Back Box making sure everything is located correctly into the rubbers.

I had my Magnex on for over a year and it never dropped or fell off.

I had a Magnex on my 172....for about 2 weeks!

Very heavy and used to swing about on the hangars.....never fell off though so I think you may have a dodgy mount.
