Another... Vista is crap thread

  BMW e46 320 Ci Sport
i'm running 64bit with my 4gig yes, can't see it otherwise.

All these comment on here...i dunno what you guys are thinking. Sure vista needs a couple of gig IF you run aero, if you turn it off its fine on a gig. I'm running it on a del X1!!! thats 1.1m processor and 1gig of ram, turned aero off and it's fine, more than fine, its great and works perfectly.

Stop being so resistant to change is what i say. Vista is cool imo and for features there isn't much, but id' say directx10(and .1) is worthwhile if you've got a new pc.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
x64 with 8Gb RAM, everything is instantaneous. Memory is the key to Vista, and at today's prices there's no excuse not to. DDR2-800 for £70/4Gb means 8Gb sets you back £140. I remember when a megabyte cost you more...

There's no need for 8GB at this time, not by any stretch of the imagination. 4GB for £60 is all you need ot pay for the next year two.

The only complaint i have about vista is that it takes a long time to shut down. Otherwise :D

Weird, mine shuts down very quick comparted to my old XP install... though maybe that's because it's still relatively fresh. Startup is very quick too... NOD32 is a great anti-virus to use with it in performance terms, very little impact on speed. :)

Would never go back to xp, vista has run faultlessly for me.

Can't disagree with that one bit. Even though I game quite allot Vista has been so reliable for me. Ive had it installed for over a year now and its still running as fast a day one.

Installed SP1 via windows update (little trick needed) installed fine, and noticed that 32bit windows now display the ram corrrectly eg it now say I have 4gb.

I run Vista on my laptop, with 2.5GB RAM.
It's Vista SP1 (SP1 integrated into install) and it's RAPID. :)

I turned off the effects when you minimise windows, as that's annoying etc. I just have Aero Glass on for transparency etc. :)
The effects were quick, but when I open a windows, I want it to appear.. not do some pretty thing then appear :p

Vista none-SP1 with 1GB RAM on the same laptop was unusable.

nope it just means as soon as he installs its installed without noticing instead of having to update.

What's the difference between an SP1 integrated and updated OS? Is integrated superior?

It shouldn't be, but I've always found that installing it integrated is much better. It was definetely the case with XP SP2.. if you had SP1 and installed SP2, it caused loads of problems.. (although, we installed it on hundreds of PCs so maybe it's a volume thing :p)

isn't sp1 a beta?

Nope. It's RTM'd now.. think it's out generally end of this month?
