Ant-172's iceberg

  2004 iceberg 172
Hi all,
Just recently bought myself a 2004 plate 172 in iceberg silver.
It has come with a few problems but seemed ok and most of the things will be done by a myself and a few mates so should be tip top in no time and hopefully wont cost too much!
Firstly will need a gearbox as 5th crunches and jumps out, abs light is on and the steering wheel is very much in need of a retrim as its badly melted! Anyways its a project so will be something to sort over the winter.
A few good points was the low milage (64000) and came with 12months mot
It drives fine apart from 5th gear, unfortunatly my current insurance company wont insure me on it (swift cover are c*nts), so got a mate to drive it back on the garage insurance and once my current policy expires i will change insurance companys.
A pic from the sale advert, dont have any of my own yet

The bumper was cracked when i got it, this was covered by tape but didnt look too bad until i got the car home and removed it

As i looked closer at the car i realised it wasnt all iceberg silver!! I then started sourcing some parts in the correct colour and went down to yorkshire and got myself a bumper wing door and side skirt in iceberg and eventually am going to get the quarter painted as thats also titanium silver
By the time it goes on the road it should all be the correct colour and be mechanically sound, fingers crossed!

Ha yes mate bumper was worse than expected, got a new bumper, wing, door and side skirt in iceberg, started changing them over this week, should get some money back for the titanium door and side skirt thou. Bumper and wing are f*cked thou as they were smoothed into one piece so when i removed them i cracked the filler which has made a mess of both panels so there getting binned!!
Not sure which alloys i want yet, either 172 alloys or turinis. Which ever i get will be sprayed anthracite i think :)

Anyways its looking a lot better now all the iceberg parts are on. Just need to get the mirror cover, rear passenger quarter and door strip painted, the side skirt revited back on and then body work will all be sorted.

Ignore the gay steering wheel cover in the boot, came with the car!

Tryed fitting the front strut brace but for some reason it doesnt seem to fit?? Is there two differnt types? The bits next to the strut top stop it sitting where its supposed too. See second pic below, the ecu i yhink it is

Next on the list is...
•get the quarter, door strip and mirror cover sprayed
•get the gearbox fitted
•get rid of the gay 17" wheels and sort somenew wheels out
•fit the braided hoses
•fit the 182 manifold and link pipe (this will be done with the gearbox while the subframes out)

Well since i recieved a 172 manifold last week, i sent him that back and finally recieved my 182 manifold. Bargain at £70 posted imo. Also got a cobra cat back exhaust system this week. Not sure if there any good or not but for £40 delivered if its that bad i'm sure i'll get my money back for it!

Its finally nearly ready for the gearbox going in, all thats left on the shopping list now is a clutch, just getting a standard one as not going to be looking for any major power out of this car, quite fancy a few track days next year but that will be all

Well today the alactara i ordered came, so decided to give the interior a tidy up, did both the a pillars, steering wheel trim and both dash trim bits

Right sold a few things since this was last updated to fund some new wheels.
Sold the manifold and link pipe, also got rid of the strut braces because tbh they would just sit in the car for show and who looks in your boot and under the bonnet!?
Anyways purchased some 182 wheels in silver to get rid of the chavvy 'things' that are on it now! They could do with a refurb but that can wait for now
Too dark to get pics so i'll get some asap

Also decided to paint the side bullets, diamonds and clio badge. Removed the renault sport badge completely.
Decided to paint in rover stone grey as the usual ford graphite grey is too dark imo
Came out pretty well, they look quite dark in the pic but there not as dark as this

Fitted all the bullets and diamonds this morning! And decided to remove the renault sport badges and de-wiper the rear.
Really need to invest in a new camera as the iphone is crap at taking photos

Pic with the new wheels on. The two fronts are in need of a refurb, but i got them at a descent price and they came wrapped in toyo t1r's with loads of tread left! Not sure whether to keep these standard colour or match them so there the same colour as the bullets.....hmmmm!?

Yes i agree, as soon as i they were bought i was planning on anthracite, but tbh the silver looks spot on, may just get the two fronts refurbed the standard colour, at least it will be cheaper :)

  2004 iceberg 172
tbh i didnt see me getting that much gain with it and when i come and sell the car i wont get any extra money for it and wasn't worth the hassle of removing it when the time comes to sell. I made money selling the mani and link pipe and they funded the wheels mate. Prefer the car to look good over having a few extra horses!

Thought i'd make a start on making the engine bay look respectable. Started with the engine cover....just waiting to recieve my engine cover stickers of N2Grafix then i can get it laquared

Good to see another 172 being revived! I got mine cheap too and have had to spend a bit on tidying it up.

Bonnet was rippled, roof was scratched, bumper had small crack by the splitter and the exhaust was a mish mash of god knows what! Oh and the dephaser was rattling it's t*ts off aswell as having tired engine mounts.
Just need an arch liner, get the recaro's shampooed and get the turinis refurbed and it's sorted!

Feels good to keep em on the road. Good work.

Been ages since I've updated this thread, in the last couple of months it seems ie spent a small fortune on this thing but it seems to be getting there
recently

*swapped the springs that were on it for sportlines, car handles brilliant and doesn't bounce about like it used to
*fitted new rear dampers
*fitted gearbox and new clutch
*full service - all filters, oils, coolant, spark plugs
*fitted new passenger xenon, I was blinding everyone at night due to the little white clip being broke and the inside wobbling all over the place
*had new ball joints and track rod ends fitted
*refitted the cat
*fitted private plate and got a 3/4 plate made up for the front

Next is fitting a new radiator as the current one seems to be leaking, needs done ASAP really but just ant be bothered spending money on it, keep topping it up for now! Also needs a tyre but that can also wait till I have funds

I was originally planning on turinis mate but sourced the 182 wheels cheap enough so took them, I am thinking of spraying them the same colour as the diamonds (rover stone grey) as they are in need of a refurb. They look spot on IMO so I'll defo be keeping them for now

Not really sure what else ATM thou, it's coming up to the 70k mark so am going to have to start thinking about getting the belts done,
Also need a new windscreen but I'll get that sorted through the insurance and just pay the excess.
Will start to think off other mods once it's sorted, if a stealth system comes up cheap enough thou I may snap it up ;)
